I often get asked how can you charge so much for your sales training, where’s your credibility? Firstly I remind people that selling is a really important skill. Without orders you have nothing. As for credibility I give people a quick review of my career.
My first sales role was back in the day well before laptops and mobile phones, when you had to walk around industrial estates knocking on doors and asking for compliments slips and then putting half a day aside to follow them up to make next week’s appointments. In two years the annual turnover on my patch tripled before I moved on to pastures new.
One of my favourite sales roles was account managing Bentley Motors. Not only was it great see highly skilled craftsman turning out fabulous motor cars but I took a great deal of pride in their satisfaction with our service and this led to what was a 4 year contract that was valued at £250k when I took it over being renewed at £1.2m two years later!
Partly due to my success at Bentley I was promoted and inherited a sales team that was doing circa £1m per annum. Two years later we did £5.2m!
My last ever role on the corporate world before I set up on my own was for a Testing & Certification company. They asked me to improve sales of the lighting line.
The year before I joined it had done £40k. 18 months later it did £220k in the first 6 months. Then they made me redundant! Too successful for my own good! 😊
The stuff I train and coach people in actually works!
No orders means no money! Cash is what puts the shoes on your kids feet, the clothes on your back and pays for your car and holidays etc. Cash also enables you to pay other people to do the mundane tasks that you probably don’t enjoy and are not very good at. This then enables you to concentrate on your core activities which makes you more effective so you can earn even more money! 😊
Food for thought hopefully. As I said earlier selling is simple but it’s not easy! Learn how to sell. Spending money on your own self-development is an investment not a cost!
